NHL and team executives sharing ideas for adjusting the draft lottery

The league announced on Wednesday that it was temporarily halting its scouting combine, awards ceremony and draft that were scheduled for June amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to an National Hockey League source, the draft lottery format will likely be linked to whatever decisions are made regarding the schedule and playoff system.

If the National Hockey League is indeed able to resume play and finish this season (with or without fans in attendance), it's believed that the postseason would include dates as late as August (and maybe even September).

Your NHS needs you! Government issues urgent appeal for volunteers
After 170,000 signed up overnight, the appeal has now hit its target in just 24 hours. Boris Johnson announced that 405,000 people have signed up to be NHS volunteers.

While the Detroit Red Wings now have the best odds of winning the lottery at 18.5 per cent, the Ottawa Senators have a combined 25 per cent chance because they hold their own first-round selection at 13.5 per cent and the top pick of the San Jose Sharks at 11.5 per cent as a result of the Erik Karlsson deal. Major League Baseball is reportedly considering skipping its 2020 draft, originally scheduled for June 10-12, in order to save money in what will likely be a shortened season. But the league's release suggests a potential change in the format, which could affect the Red Wings.
