Andrew Cuomo is truly rising to the challenge of the corona crisis

"I will take any help from anywhere", Mr.de Blasio said.

"I do unfortunately believe the likelihood we're at right now is that we lose the whole school year which is really really, deeply unfortunate", he said.

The policy won't included any inmates who have domestic violence or sexual offense charges, de Blasio said, because the city doesn't feel comfortable releasing them at this time.

The country's largest school system closed March 16.

NY officials are calling for the White House to nationalize the effort to acquire more medical supplies amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Cuomo said Monday the state has obtained more respirator masks for health care workers.

"We're going to keep getting more kids laptops and the technology they need and the Wi-Fi connections".

Critics also expressed concern that many of New York City's school children depend on their schools for food, and remote learning is impossible for the many students who do not have internet at home.

Spanish soldiers find elderly people dead and abandoned in retirement homes
Spain is one of the worst-hit countries by the coronavirus pandemic , with over 30,000 confirmed cases and over 2,000 deaths. His father had been staying at the Monte Hermoso residential home, where 20 elderly people died from the virus last week.

But the numbers should be treated with caution given the surge in testing across the state of NY.

"We're going to make that judgment as we get closer", said de Blasio while he was live on PIX11.

IL governor JB Pritzker warned that states were competing with each other for vital supplies. "In some ways we're savaging other states".

On Monday, Cuomo issued an emergency order to hospitals to increase their bed capacity by 50%.

US Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams gave a "somber" message to the nation while speaking on NBC on Monday morning. "The only force I think that can keep up with the need to constantly move supplies and equipment where they're needed and doctors, nurses, other medical personnel where they're needed is going to be the USA military".

"The surgeon general is right".

"It's the beginning of something that will get worse throughout April and into May, and we've got to brace ourselves and we've got to change our lives".
