Nvidia announces DLSS 2.0 with improved rendering quality

As far as performance gains over the first version are concerned, Nvidia admits that the Quality mode on DLSS 2.0 is a bit slower, yet the image quality should be improved and the performance should still be better over the non-DLSS mode. While the feature wasn't used as well in its first iteration, NVIDIA is now confident that they have successfully fixed all the issues it had before.

There are a few applied sciences behind the scenes which can be powering DLSS 2.0, together with enhancements to the AI community, which is now twice as quick, a rise within the goal decision together with the addition of temporal suggestions, and the shift to utilizing one mannequin for all video games. But Jesse's not the only one to benefit, because Mechwarrior 5 of all games is getting the new DLSS too.

Deep Learning Super Sampling is a deep-learning-based rendering technique that uses the Nvidia Tensor cores on RTX graphics cards to increase game performance. This means that your graphics card will be able to output at, say, 4K while only feeling the pressure of rendering at 1440p. It offered higher framerate but image quality suffered and many were disappointed with the much-anticipated feature. This results in a crisper image without sacrificing the frame rate. Not only does that improve frame rates, but it eliminates the need for those aggravating resolution restrictions so common in DLSS 1.0 games.

Plus, with Nvidia's announcement of its partnership with Unreal to build DLSS tools directly into a new Unreal Engine 4 branch, the number of developers that could build their games from the ground up with ray tracing and DLSS optimizations baked in just got a lot larger in an instant.

Not only does the DLSS 2.0 update promise better speeds, but the quality of the DLSS render itself is also said to have gotten an overhaul, thanks to an improved architecture that's been integrated into the neural net algorithm, and it will be better equipped to handle situations that used to trip up DLSS 1.0. This means more user choice, and even bigger performance boosts. DLSS 2.0, releasing this week in Control and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, represents another major advance for AI in gaming.

Several games already have DLSS 2.0 capability, including Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Deliver us the Moon. If you own a GeForce RTX graphics cards, you can play DLSS 2.0 games the way you want to. The launch of the manufacturer comes along with the API DirectX 12 Ultimate, which allows the development of games with better levels of lighting, shadows and textures and will be present in the new Xbox Series X.

We should be clear that, while this new implementation of DLSS means that it will be available in more games, it doesn't mean that it will be available in all games. Those are Quality, Balanced, and Performance.
