Student Senate has been busy the past couple of weeks leading up to new cabinet elections. Here’s a breakdown of some of the things they have been working on.
A recent amendment passed allows senators to retain office while abroad during the fall semester. However, if they are abroad during the spring semester, they will have to resign.
Student Senate has also begun to provide drip coffee from @theBeak on Sundays after 7 pm. This will carry on until the end of the year. As someone who is out of Cardinal Points, this truly is a blessing.
To address quality in the cafeteria, Senate has begun to work on creating a task force that will work with Fresh Ideas to help convey student complaints, suggestions and praises. At the moment it is likely to be confined to members of Senate. Don’t forget that you can still use the comment card box located near the entrance to also communicate your opinions.
A funds request by Maggie Metz, senior, was also made. She requested funds from Senate to help with to a showing of a film for To Write Love on Her Arms, an organization that works to help people struggling with depression, self-injury, addiction or suicide.
April 14 was the final meeting for the Schwartz cabinet this year. Next Tuesday, Apr 21, the newly elected cabinet will be formally transitioned in. This year’s election features three potential cabinets: the Smith cabinet, the Routh cabinet, and the Rash cabinet. The cabinets will be debating in the Union Monday, Apr 20, at 10:15. Voting will take place Monday via email survey.
