Faced with a massive target of 482, Australia - missing star batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner, after the former captain and his deputy were both given year-long bans for their roles in March's ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town - slumped to 239 all out with 13 overs remaining.

It was the "hardest day's cricket I have ever had in my life, ' said Tim Paine, the Australia captain, after his team conceded a one-day worldwide record 481/6 to England and were then bowled out for 239 to go down by a whopping 242 runs.It was the third ODI of the five-match series, which England have now snatched 3-0, and while Paine was hurting, Eoin Morgan, his England counterpart, was 'extremely proud" after the Trent Bridge blitz.England now have the two top ODI team totals against their name - their 444/3 against Pakistan, also at Trent Bridge, is at No.2 - and they have both come in the last two years.

Jonny Bairstow's swashbuckling 139 and a magnificent 147 by Alex Hales took England past their previous record of 444-3 against Pakistan two years ago at the same ground. Bairstow continued to torment the Australians, completing his fourth one-day hundred in six innings off 69 balls.

Overall, England thrashed 41 fours and 21 sixes, with AJ Tye going for 100 from nine overs, and Marcus Stoining leaking 81 from eight.

Australia skipper Tim Paine described England's batting as some of the "best striking I've ever seen". "That is as hard a day's cricket as I've had in 16 or 17 years". "Normally that happens for an hour or two then you get a couple of wickets. I am sure they are more skillfull and better bowlers in one of most powerful nations in cricket".

"We have a really inexperienced attack and we would be foolish not to go through it and learn from it", pointed out Paine.

Adams said, " He is a hero ", I really think more people could easily have been shot with what this guy was doing. Witness Darren Gossler said he saw a man with what appeared to be a handgun in the supermarket.

Openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow made an excellent start to England's innings.

Bairstow struck three fours off quickie Jhye Richardson's first over and Roy tucked into Billy Stanlake, pulling him for a six as England reached 38-0 after five overs.

Bairstow had two scares, overturning an lbw verdict on 27 sweeping at Ashton Agar and escaping a very hard chance to Marcus Stoinis at deep mid-off three runs later off Andrew Tye, but he powered on to a 69-ball century.

Hales exited to a smart catch from Agar off Richardson who then found himself on a hat-trick when Eoin Morgan picked out Paine following a quickfire 67.

"We have 12 months until the World Cup and we are looking at some options", he said. The top three are a huge asset to have.
