If you happen to be a Switch hardware owner or would be willing to purchase one of Nintendo's consoles purely to play Fortnite, then you can expect to be able to get the game with Switch compatibility immediately as of 10:00AM PST.

It's great news for both fans and Epic Games on a number of fronts.

Fortnite has proven itself to be extremely popular and profitable on the iOS family.

Fortnite is certain to grab the short-term attention of players, but it's not necessarily a game that will sell hardware.

This should keep the numbers good for the foreseeable future, although there are some drawbacks.

Banned former Federation Internationale de Football Association president Sepp Blatter to attend World Cup in Russia
Joachim Low's defending champions are expected to be the first side to retain the World Cup since Brazil in 1962 by 38 percent of players.

This is the same for Xbox One, while PS4 players are also barred from joining up with players not on PC and Mobile. Just as well, there's been no mention of cross-platform multiplayer, though if it's possible on Switch, it's something Epic will probably push for given the cross-platform functionality present in other versions of the game. Accounts syncing is one of the main appeals of Fortnite, and Sony is taking that away from players.

Instead, Switch owners will need to create a new account from scratch and lose all their progress from previous play sessions. The confirmation that cross-play support is included came directly from Nick Chester from Epic Games who confirmed it all on Twitter. Battle Royale, meanwhile, is free-to-play. Unfortunately, the game is now having matchmaking issues, likely due to the influx of players. Switch seems to be the trigger that makes your account incompatible. You can download the game from the eShop starting right now.

That's because Sony made a decision to block cross-play between the PS4 and the Switch.

This will allow you to join your Switch friend's lobby to squad up.
