S.Korea, US Suspend August Joint Drills

Poll reveals what voters think about Trump Kim summit

South Korea and the United States announced a joint decision early on Tuesday morning to suspend this year's iteration of the Ulchi-Freedom Guardian computerized command post military exercises.

The announcement came a week after the landmark summit meeting between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.

The Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White on Monday said the Pentagon has "suspended all planning" for the August joint military exercises with South Korea and several allies in the region.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Wednesday that an action plan by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and reciprocal measures by the United States will be needed to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

It will be Moon Jae-in's first visit to Russian Federation after his taking the presidential office in May 2017 and the first state visit by a South Korean president to Russian Federation since 1999.

Warming ties between North Korea and South Korea come as relations between North Korea and the United States have also improved after tension past year over the North's nuclear and missile programs.

In July 2016, the North Korean government demanded the withdrawal of the USA military from South Korea as one of the conditions of the denuclearization in a statement.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in suggested a joint hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with other Northeast Asian countries at a meeting past year with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.

Spain resumed in more positive fashion after the break, Beiranvand forced to produce heroics twice in the space of four minutes. Now Iran had to commit men forward and they wheeled away in delirium when Ezatolahi drilled past David De Gea from close range.

But senior Japanese government officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they are concerned the suspension of the military exercise could weaken deterrence provided by the United States.

The two Koreas held talks on sports exchanges on Monday in the border village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone, but World Cup coverage in the North was not on the agenda, according to officials at South Korea's unification ministry.

Those are bigger concessions that are unlikely to be granted by the USA without concrete steps by North Korea toward denuclearization.

Some say the one-day summit helped extend a temporary detente on the Korean Peninsula, but others say it was light on substance and Trump made too many concessions to North Korea.

Critics in Congress have warned that ending joint drills could weaken the military alliance between the US and South Korea, which hosts 28,500 American troops.

Speaking at the news conference, Kang also ruled out the possibility of reducing the size of the United States Forces Korea (USFK), an issue raised by the U.S. President last week.

"No matter the changes in the worldwide and regional situation, China's party and government's resolute position on being dedicated to consolidating and developing Sino-North Korea relations will not change", the report cited Xi as saying.
