Zach Johnson on U.S. Open Saturday'They've lost the golf course Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Johnson was at 4-under 136 as he goes after his second U.S. Open in three years.

Overnight pacesetter Dustin Johnson squandered a four-stroke advantage as Brooks Koepka and Henrik Stenson took a share of the lead during the third round at the U.S. Open on Saturday. Scott Piercy (71) and Charley Hoffman (69) were at even par.

"I like golf courses where par is a really good score and here, on every hole, par is a good score", he said.

Hey guys, the U.S. Open has now officially started. All but one - Tom McNamara in 1909 - went on to win.

It put him one shot off the lead, but his good work was undone on the 17th hole where he triple bogeyed to move back to even for the tournament.

Russell Henley was tied for the lead until he missed the third fairway and went into thick grass that change fortunes in a NY minute.

He was a little unlucky at the last, where his approach shot trickled into some gnarly rough some 40 feet above the hole, from where he fluffed his delicate chip that trickled down to within 11 feet of the cup.

Scott posted only three birdies over the course of the two days, with 12 bogeys and two double-bogeys, struggling at times to find the fairways and the greens. Poulter closed to within a stroke of Johnson at 3 under with a round of exquisite consistency and a sudden spate of three birdies in four holes.

Nothing was likely to create more discussion than Phil Mickelson hitting a moving ball on the 13th green.

"When you're out of position on this golf course and, you know, you're trying not to make another mistake and another mistake and you kind of are, you know, it just looks really stupid", Poulter said afterward. Five shots behind the leader Rose remains hopeful.

US Open 2018: Outright and two-balls advice for Moving Day
He had four consecutive bogeys before parring the 12th, despite the serenading of "Happy Birthday" from the crowds at every hole. Harold Varner , playing in his second major, finished the tournament at plus-14. "I never want to make doubles, " Johnson said.

"I just hit a lot of good shots", Hill said. You're going to try to hit fairways.

While Johnson was shooting 6-over 41, including four bogeys and a double bogey, Koepka went out in even-par 35.

Woods closed with back-to-back birdies to salvage a 72.

Tiger Woods missed the halfway cut at the US Open, the day before the 10th anniversary of his last major title success in the latest sign his comeback from major back surgery has stalled. But after missing the cut at Shinnecock Hills, one thing is abundantly clear: he won't do it at the U.S. Open.

The US Open cut sliced off some huge names.

"Our whole careers are pretty much measured (by the majors) and one year (2000), I did it three times". It's a remarkable place, where Woods seems to be able to erase an entire decade and convince himself that his return to major-championship prowess is imminent.

Gretzky was at Oakmont two years ago but had to leave before the final round when Johnson won the U.S. Open. Johnson knows that as well as anyone.

"It's a tough golf course, tough conditions, so it's very important to stay patient all day", he said. Mickelson said he thought it would have taken him more than two strokes if he had let the ball keep rolling. "I gave myself enough looks but I didn't make anything", said woods.

"I know Dustin's going well, so I might be a few shots out of full contention", Fleetwood said.
