Trump calls for Russian Federation to be readmitted to G8, European Union rejects it

Mr. Trump, who arrived at the summit late, left early Saturday, departing for Singapore for his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Washington's partners in the G7 have been reeling since the Trump administration last week imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from Canada, the European Union and Mexico, prompting retaliation and raising the specter of a global trade war.

French President Emmanuel Macron said ahead of the summit that USA allies would not be intimidated, signalling that the other six countries at the G7 meeting would be willing to sign a final declaration without Trump.

He wrote on his Twitter profile: "Please tell Prime Minister Trudeau and President Macron that they are charging the United States massive tariffs and create non-monetary barriers".

"People can't charge us 270 percent and we charge them nothing, that doesn't work anymore", he said.

"We have to have deals that are fair", Trump said.

On Canada and the summit: "It has worked out to be so wonderful".

"This used to be the G8, not the G7, then something happened", Trump said in reference to Moscow's suspension from the group in March 2014, over the secession of Crimea from Ukraine.

The United States' closest trading partners - the EU, Canada and Mexico - have vowed to impose retaliatory tariffs on scores of USA products beginning in the coming weeks.

He said that he did not blame G7 leaders for the "unfair" trade deals, but previous U.S. presidents.

"I blame our leaders and I congratulate leaders of other countries for taking advantage of our leaders".

G7 leaders had meant to use the summit to confront Trump on the tariffs, which they have described as protectionist and a threat to the global economy.

Once again, Trump emphasized that the days of the US getting the short end of the stick in its trading relationships with the world were over under his watch.

I think it is going to be very positive. He called many current tariffs on USA goods and services "ridiculous".

Such a move could make it almost impossible to renegotiate the terms of the 1994 NAFTA pact between the United States, Canada and Mexico. But Trump, who has asserted a decisively pro-Russia posture, said Saturday at the G-7 in Canada that it would be an "asset to have Russian Federation back in".

"Ultimately that's what you want", Trump said.

"Our values and interests are built through multilateralism, including American interests", Macron said in a tweet. "Or we're going to make a deal directly with Canada, directly with Mexico", Trump said Saturday.

Highlighting the scale of the differences between Western allies, for the first time in G7 history there were doubts on whether the summit would end a final joint communique.

That pretty much speaks for itself. [Last week] I believed I was fighting either [Kubrat] Pulev or [Luis] Ortiz. Prior to that, the Las Vegas-based Parker was 24-0, with wins over Hughie Fury, Andy Ruiz and Carlos Takam.
