Uruguay hammers Russian Federation 3-0 to top Group A

Two early goals saw Uruguay finish top of group A as they inflicted Russia's first defeat of the World Cup in Samara, winning 3-0 to make it three victories from three and leave the hosts in second place.

Zabiyaka, a she-goat from a Samara-based zoo, has predicted Russia's win over Uruguay in its final FIFA World Cup group stage match to be played in Samara on June 25, a zoo official told TASS on Sunday.

Luis Suarez grabbed his second goal of the tournament to open Uruguay's account with a free kick after 10 minutes and they doubled the lead with an own goal from Russia's Denis Cheryshev soon after.

Russian Federation were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when the referee gave Igor Smolnikov a red card after several committed fouls as he had been earlier given a yellow card. His composure on the ball and first touch was on show and will have impressed potential new manager Unai Emery.

However, the game will be remembered for a long time to come as Egyptian Goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary became the oldest player in World Cup history.

Assistant Farbrace to coach England's T20 side against Australia, India
The three ODIs of the series will be played on July 12, 14 and 17, later, followed by five Test matches starting on August 1. Paul Farbrace will act as England coach for their forthcoming Twenty20 campaign against Australia and India.

The energetic Vecino is also a Premier League target, and Chelsea will be hoping to bring him in for Antonio Conte's probable successor, Maurizio Sarri.

While Russia had confounded those who predicted a group stage exit with resounding victories over Saudi Arabia and Egypt, there was still a question mark over how they would perform when they faced stronger opposition.

Match-winner against Egypt, Jose Gimenez is out for Uruguay, whilst Alan Dzagoev is still out with a hamstring injury.

For Russia, the loss is a wake-up call.

With their talismanic forward Mohammed Salah struggling with his fitness following a rather hurried return from a left shoulder dislocation, Egypt have struggled in the two matches they played so far.
