Woman arrested for transporting children in dog kennels

The man who filmed the incident told WREG he's happy he was in the right place at the right time.

In the video, a child is seen climbing out of the trunk of the vehicle from the kennel. Moments later, a girl straightens her bent knees to emerge from the pet enclosure.

Department spokesman Rob Johnson said investigators are reviewing the case of Leimome Cheeks, who is charged with two counts of child endangerment.

In a mobile phone video taken by a local resident, the 62-year-old woman can be seen unlocking two children, aged seven and eight, out of cages in the boot of her vehicle.

The children had also complained about the heat whilst they were kept in the confined space of the vehicle trunk, according to WREG.

Temperatures in Memphis, Tennessee, reached up to 33 degrees on Saturday.

Kadena-based F-15C crashes into waters off Okinawa
The US fighter jet belonged the American Kadena airbase in Okinawa, Kyodo reported, citing government sources. The base tweeted: "Around 6.36am this morning, a Kadena F-15C Eagle crashed in the water south of Okinawa".

Cheeks recently brought the kennels for her two puppies. Not saying its going to change but eyes are open now.

They say she's a woman of faith and they have always known her to be a very nice lady.

Other neighbours Eugene and Melanie Richmond described her as a "super good neighbour" and "a real caring person".

An investigation has been launched by Children Services and Memphis Police. I only met her like once maybe twice. "She's such a nice lady", a neighbor told WREG-TV.

"Leimome Cheeks was interviewed and admitted to riding from Whitehaven to Collerville with the children in the kennel", a police affidavit obtained by Commercial Appeal states. "It's a huge mistake, get some help yeah but put her in jail, it's hard to say", he added.
