Courtois Believes World Cup Performance Merits Improved Contract

The 26-year-old is into the final 12 months of his contract at Chelsea and has always been a reported target for Real Madrid, with his former partner and two children living in the Spanish capital.

A solid performance for third-place Belgium only confirmed that notion even more, which would make his departure a hard one for Chelsea to try and replace.

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol claims Chelsea are looking at the veteran if Courtois joins Real Madrid. Perhaps it's a good time for [Chelsea] and for Eden [to split]. For me, it's very easy to answer that question. "He could fit in any team in the world", Martinez was quoted as saying by Spanish radio show Cadena Ser's "El Larguero".

Chelsea FC sacked Antonio Conte last week before the Blues appointed controversial Italian head coach Maurizio Sarri as his replacement at Stamford Bridge. However, he insists he could see out the previous year of his deal depending on how Chelsea deal with the situation.

A deal could reportedly be announced in the coming days, with the two clubs thought to have agreed a fee of around £31m.

Liverpool Close In On Record-Breaking Transfer Signing
The Reds will be looking to try and challenge for the Premier League title next season after their fourth-placed finish last term. The report claims that Liverpool have made a bid of £62m, with £53m being offered up front and the rest being made up in add-ons.

Courtois, who won the Golden Gloves for his performances at this summer's 2018 World Cup, has made no secret of his desire to return to Madrid at some point, having spent three years in the city with Atletico Madrid earlier in his career.

Chelsea are desperate to sign Roma star Alisson this summer.

They say the Blues will send transfer chiefs to Rome to open talks with the Serie A giants.

Hazard told reporters: "After six wonderful years at Chelsea it might be time to discover something different".

"Wherever I go, Hazard must come along", Courtois said after Belgium's win over England.
