Cristiano Ronaldo reaches deal with Spain's tax office

Portuguese ace Ronaldo salutes his fans as he arrives to undergo medical checks at the Juventus stadium in Turin, Italy.

Spain's tax office agreed to hand Cristiano Ronaldo a €19 million fine and two-year prison sentence in relation to the ex-Real Madrid player's unpaid tax bill over four years, according to reports in the country.

A source with knowledge of the deal - which was first reported in the Spanish media - confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday that the agreement will be finalised in the coming days.

In Spanish law, first-time offenders committing non-violent crimes tend to avoid actually going to prison if their sentences are two years or less.

Ronaldo will not serve any time in prison as he has pleaded guilty to the charges but will pay back the full amount of tax, plus interest, to the Spanish treasury.

Ajaz Patel included in New Zealand’s Test squad against Pakistan
Patel picked up 49 wickets in just nine matches for the Central Stags last season in their march to the Plunket Shield title. Tim Seifert, Mark Chapman and Lockie Ferguson will play the T20 games before moving into the Black Caps T20 squad .

The Portugal star was charged on four counts of tax fraud between 2011-2014 amounting to 14.8 million euros ($17.3 million).

Spanish tax agencies have reportedly struck a deal with the five time Champions League victor in an agreement that will see him part ways with up to KSh 2.2 billion.

The charges were initially denied by Ronaldo and his management company Gestifute, with the player answering tetchily whenever questioned over the matter.

He joined Serie A side Juventus earlier this month for £88m, ending his nine-year spell in the Spanish capital.

In 2016, Barcelona forward Lionel Messi received a suspended 21-month jail sentence after being found guilty of defrauding tax authorities of 4.1 million euros (then $4.6 million).
