That's according to Bloomberg, which reports that Facebook has snapped up Google's head of silicon and vice president Shahriar Rabii in a move that would indicate Mark Zuckerberg and pals are properly keen on making their own chips.

Rabii's LinkedIn account shows that he founded Google's consumer silicon team (dubbed gChips) and helped lead the team behind the Pixel Visual Core used in the Pixel 2 smartphones. He's now going to work under Andrew Bosworth, who's in charge of Facebook's VR and AR efforts.

Over the past few years, Google has successfully captured some of the chip design professionals from Apple to develop its own processors, but the tables has turned and now Google has lost one of his talented professional to Facebook.

U.S. Interpreter in Trump-Putin Meeting Holds All the Secrets
Trump's acceptance of Putin's denials of Russian interference in the 2016 USA election was "lame", Fox News anchor Brit Hume said. Trump called the summit a "first step toward a brighter future and one toward a strong dialogue and a lot of thought".

Rabii's responsibilities at Facebook are not clear, with the company yet to confirm any silicon projects. Baidu has the Kunlun AI chip, and Huawei owns the fabless semiconductor company HiSilicon.

Facebook through Oculus virtual reality division is working on several future devices. It's undoubtedly a bold direction for the company though it's unclear how interested Facebook is in creating custom silicon for consumer devices or if they're more focused on building for their server business as they also look to accelerate their own research efforts.

Facebook Inc. has joined other leading tech firms such as Apple, Alphabet, Google and Amazon by custom making their chips. As at now, the company is shipping iPads and iPhones processors, but by 2020, the company will have Macs that feature their central processors. For example, Oculus has launched its Oculus Go VR headset which runs on a Qualcomm chip. The social networking giant has also been actively working on the production of hardware that features some smart speakers that will have huge touch screens that allow for video chats. Facebook in-house AI chip will enable the company to sync the hardware and software in line with deliverables.
