Pirates Sweep Double Header

Josh Bell has had a tough third season at the plate, with an overall drop in production and especially in extra-base hits. They hit back-to-back home runs for the second time Saturday, and the Pittsburgh Pirates won the second game of a doubleheader 6-2 over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Pirates have won the first four games of their five-game series against the Brewers. He credited a change in mindset rather than anything mechanical.

"Just doing me", Polanco said. "They made me work".

Cole (10-2) allowed one run and three hits with four walks after being activated from the bereavement list prior to the game.

"Just a lot of wins all over the place for a lot of different guys and the team", manager Clint Hurdle said. They also hit consecutive home runs in the first inning of the Pirates' 2-1 win earlier Saturday. Starling Marte and Gregory Polanco hit back-to-back home runs off Chase Anderson.

In the fifth, Moran scored on Bell's double with the aid of Lorenzo Cain's error. Polanco then drove Anderson's 3-2 offering over the wall in right. Bell drove in Moran again with a triple in the eighth.

ASTROS 3, TIGERS 0: In Houston, Dallas Keuchel pitched six strong innings, three relievers completed the seven-hitter and Alex Bregman hit his 20th home run to provide the offense to lead Houston.

Nola (12-3) needed 31 pitches to get through the first. Kyle Crick got four outs for his second save of the season. He struck out four.

"We just didn't make pitches", Brewers manger Craig Counsell said. Just seeing the ball and hitting it. "It wasn't very good". The Pirates head into the break as winners of six straight and eight of their last nine. Travis Shaw also homered for Milwaukee, which has lost three straight and five of seven.

With the All-Star break here, the Pirates are running out of time to convince their general manger to keep this roster intact. "We got two extra-base hits in two games". "That's not time to be exhausted".

Brent Suter, who returned from the 10-day disabled list (left forearm tightness), went five innings for Milwaukee, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Milwaukee optioned right-handed reliever Adrian Houser to the minors.

Pirates: 2B Josh Harrison left the game with left hamstring discomfort. Hernan Perez replaced him. But, the Pirates plated two runs in the frame to secure the 7-6 victory. It's the first five-game sweep for Pittsburgh since 1996. It will be Holmes' second Major League Baseball start.
