Putin: Trump was 'of no interest' to Russian Federation before 2016 election

Now Russian Prosecutors Want to Question US Intel Agents

"Mr. Trump stunned onlookers by repeatedly defending Putin during the press conference from allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election and casting doubt on conclusions to that effect made by USA intelligence agencies".

During a high-profile meeting in Helsinki on Monday, Trump said he didn't see "any reason why" Russian Federation would have interfered in the 2016 US election, despite the findings from his own intelligence agencies. She calls the President's position "untenable". To Frum, the summit was a public showing of Russia's sway over the US president. On the wider issue of Ukraine, Putin said he had urged Trump to put pressure on Ukraine to do more to comply with the Minsk accords.

Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election may have been meant more as a warning to Hillary Clinton about Moscow's capabilities than an earnest bid to boost then-candidate Donald Trump, former USA attorney general Michael Mukasey argues.

His feeling of invincibility is backed up by a Republican party that will, indeed, reject any real accountability for Trump no matter what he does.

President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin were welcomed to Helsinki, Finland, with a potent message about the importance of press freedom ahead of their bilateral summit. "It is great to be with you", Trump told Putin, before shaking hands briefly and heading into talks, which are being closely watched around the world. "Getting along with Russian Federation is a good thing, not a bad thing". He described Putin as looking "happy" and "in charge" during the joint conference.

The "pee-tape" is a reference to a 2016 research dossier funded by the campaign of Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and compiled by ex-British spy Christopher Steele.

Trump has denied the dossier's allegation, calling it a "disgrace" and a "witch hunt".

Trump trolled with 'traitor' tweet by Dictionary.com after Putin summit
A post-NATO trip to Britain, supposedly America's partner in a "special relationship", was riddled with controversy as well. For Trump, securing the sit-down was long on his agenda as part of a bid to smooth relations with Russian Federation.

The Senate's number two Republican, Sen.

Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Helsinki nearly an hour late, tossed off his jacket while still on the tarmac and climbed into a new Russian-made limousine on its first foreign tour.

At a summit between the two leaders in Helsinki yesterday, Mr Trump said the Russian collusion investigation has been a "disaster" for the United States and has kept the two countries "separated". Kimmel ended by saying Monday's summit was a "total win for Putin and a shameful day for America".

"It's hard to imagine greater nonsense", he scoffed. "Well, please, just disregard these issues and don't think about this anymore again".

Democratic California Representative Jimmy Gomez charged: "To side with Putin over USA intelligence is disgusting; to fail to defend the United States is on the verge of treason".

But then came the press conference the two held after their meeting, which took things to odd new heights. Bizarrely, there was no formal agenda to guide Trump, a political novice, as he met with Putin, a statesman of 18 years and former KGB intelligence officer.

Mr Trump's comments put himself out of step with U.S. intelligence agencies, which concluded that Russian Federation was behind an effort to tip the 2016 USA presidential election against Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, with a state-authorised campaign of cyber-attacks and fake news stories planted on social media.
