U.S. Interpreter in Trump-Putin Meeting Holds All the Secrets

Immediately after Monday's news conference, Trump's mood had been buoyant, people familiar with the matter said.

The morning after in the United Kingdom, the Daily Mirror tabloid newspaper ran coverage of the summit on its front page, labeling Trump "Putin's poodle" and quoting former CIA Director and career intelligence officer John Brennan who described the US President's performance as "nothing short of treasonous".

During his news conference along side Putin in Helsinki on Monday, Trump stated he didn't see "any reason" why Russian Federation was responsible for hacking the 2016 election, as USA intelligence agencies have found.

"I think that probably clarifies things", he said.

And he voiced support for U.S. intelligence agencies - a day after he had refused to accept their findings on Russia's election interference over Putin's denials - and vowed to take action to prevent further attacks. He reaffirmed the conclusion that the US holds Russian Federation responsible for attempting to hack the election and called Russian Federation out for "their ongoing, pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy". "Vladimir Putin does not share our values".

He also complained that coverage of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation summit was inaccurate, insisting that he had not been "insulting" toward USA allies.

"I didn't know the president", he said. "But if we are going to solve numerous problems facing our world, then we are going to have to find ways to cooperate in pursuit of shared interests".

Trump's acceptance of Putin's denials of Russian interference in the 2016 USA election was "lame", Fox News anchor Brit Hume said.

On Tuesday, after Trump fired back at the "Fake News" response to the summit, the "Fox & Friends" hosts agreed that Trump seems unable to separate allegations of campaign collusion with Russian Federation from the Kremlin's mission to disrupt the 2016 election.

"We have never been in a worse relationship with Russian Federation than we were" up to a few days ago. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be". We just conducted a year-long investigation into Russian Federation.

In a hastily called White House gathering of reporters, Trump said he has full faith in the USA intelligence agencies and their assertion that Russian Federation tampered with the 2016 election.

In the Senate, Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of NY called for Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other top officials to appear before Congress and tell exactly what happened during Trumps two-hour private session with Putin.

The latest indictment came on Friday when Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the indictment of 12 Russian intelligence officers for hacking the Democratic National Convention. Reading prepared remarks to reporters, Trump reiterated that there had been no collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation and that the country's efforts had no impact on the final election results.

The White House said Trump would address the summit to reporters ahead of an otherwise unrelated 2 p.m. ET meeting with lawmakers at the White House.

Noah then showed a clip reel of pundits' reactions to the Trump-Putin press conference, including one assessment that Trump's statements were "the most embarrassing performance by an American president" in recent memory.

Mr Maslin said what he felt towards President Trump and President Putin could not be described as anger.

Mr Trump's former communications director Anthony Scaramucci told CNN the "optics are bad" and "he has to reverse course immediately".

Trump called the summit a "first step toward a brighter future and one toward a strong dialogue and a lot of thought".
