Former Fox News co-president Bill Shine has been named White House deputy chief of staff for communications and assistant to the president, the White House announced Thursday.

The White House said Thursday that Shine "brings over two decades of television programming, communications, and management experience to the role".

Shine was orginally thought to be a replacement for Communications Director Hope Hicks, who left the White House earlier this year.

Shine resigned from his co-president role a year ago after being accused of covering up sexual harassment allegations involving staffers at the network going back decades, CNN reported. Many Twitter users have been quick to point out that he resigned as co-president of Fox News in 2017 due to his close relationship with Roger Ailes and accusations that he attempted to cover up Ailes' alleged sexual harassment allegations.

Shine's arrival comes amid Trump's frustration with his news coverage heading into a contentious midterm election and the 2020 campaign.

United States border patrol boat strayed into Canadian waters chasing migrants: fishermen
A statement from the association released Wednesday said the waters have been fished by both US and Canadian crews for years. The Grand Manan Fishermen's Association issued a statement that used much the same language.

He was not accused of harassment like Ailes and former Fox personality Bill O'Reilly.

Fox News later settled with Carlson and issued an apology.

"Bill Shine is starting off his day by cleaning house", Nichols said.

Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Ailes in October 2016 after leaving the network.

But while Shine wants to get rid of Pruitt because of his bad headlines, the person who replaces him will likely not be an environmentalist.
