Courtois gets Real Madrid move as Chelsea bring in Kovacic and close in on Kepa

Chelsea have given Kepa Arrizabalaga a seven-year contract worth around £70 million after making him the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

"Kepa, who is eligible to play in Saturday's Premier League opener against Huddersfield, will train with his new team-mates for the first time tomorrow".

The seven-year deal certainly puts Chelsea in a position of strength which had been lacking with outgoing Courtois.

Chelsea are reportedly close to securing the signature of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Real Madrid.

It has been said that on top of Kovačić's release on loan, Real Madrid will pay Chelsea €35 million for Courtois.

Kepa told the club's website "It's a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life".

At least one Palestinian killed, six injured in Gaza after Israeli strikes
The Gaza Health Ministry say pregnant 23-year-old Enas Khammash and her 18-month daughter were killed in Jafarawi in central Gaza. At the same time Israeli aircraft struck 140 targets belonging to the Hamas Islamist group that controls the Gaza Strip.

Most European clubs have until August 31 to make transfers though the Premier League window slams shut at 5pm today.

Chelsea are in talks with Real Madrid over a potential loan deal for the unhappy midfielder, Mateo Kovacic.

Real, meanwhile, confirmed Courtois will undergo a medical on Thursday morning before signing a six-year deal.

While the Kepa signing, on the face of it, looks like Maurizio Sarri placing trust and investment in youth, scratch the surface and the transfer smacks of a quick, thoughtless buy.

In January, he signed a new long-term contract with Bilbao until 2025, amid interest from Real Madrid. As a outcome, Kepa was rewarded with a new £60,000-a-week contract at Athletic but saw his buyout clause rise to £72m.

Just weeks after Liverpool broke the record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in a deal worth up to 72.5 million euros for Brazilian global Alisson Becker, the inexperienced Kepa, 23, now inherits the title of the world's most expensive goalkeeper.
