Wishing everyone a Happy Independence Day, Alia Bhatt quoted lyrics of the song Ae Watan from her latest film Raazi while Anushka Sharma hoised the Indian flag along with her Sui Dhaaga co-star Varun Dhawan and extended her best wishes.

There is also a flag hoisting ceremony held at the Presidential and Parliamentary buildings in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, followed by television addresses by the country's leaders.

This is the 72nd independence day for Pakistan, and prime minister-in-waiting Imran Khan tweeted to remind citizens of the origins of the day - and two founders Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Muhammad Iqbal.

Parades are held in all state capitals and district headquarters to celebrate India's Independence Day.
