Italian firefighters have said a number of cars may have fallen after a section of a viaduct on the A10 motorway fell in Genoa and Italy's ambulance service is reported as saying "dozens" may have been killed. Italian media said the portion of highway that collapsed was about 200 yards long.

Photos published by the Ansa news agency on its website showed a huge gulf between two sections of the highway.

Emergency responders are on the scene, but there are no details yet on whether there are casualties.

A fire service spokesperson told AFP the bridge collapsed primarily onto rail tracks about 100 yards below and that "cars and trucks" had fallen with the rubble.

The stories had the same pattern - flu-like symptoms that rapidly grew more serious, sometimes to the point of death. Within a week of being confined, doctors amputated his legs, then his arms in a desperate attempt to save his life.

Franco Nativo, a local journalist on the scene, told Italian broadcaster SkyTG24 that he could see "at least eight to nine" vehicles crushed under the rubble from the bridge.

A witness tweeted he feared there may be victims and a reporter for Italian news agency ANSA, Claudio Accogli, also said there may have been vehicles on the highway when both roadways of the A10 motorway crumbled.

Italy's Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli said the bridge collapse looked like an "immense tragedy".
