ESPN reportedly considering bringing back Chris Berman for Sunday NFL coverage

Last year, Berman was bumped off the network's pregame show, "Sunday NFL Countdown", and relegated to his weekly highlight spot on "Monday NFL Countdown".

The longtime sportscaster is in talks with the network about a prominent return to the airwaves for the National Football League season, the New York Post reported Thursday, citing sources.

There is no deal yet, but there is interest on both sides.

The move would be another nod in the direction of nostalgia play - a free idea floated by a mid-level sports blogger last year - previously employed in the decision to bring back Keith Olbermann. The effort to phase out Berman was led by ex-president John Skipper, who abruptly resigned from his position in December.

76 overdoses reported in New Haven; 1 person arrested
Emergency responders spent several hours today working to treat the victims and transport them to the hospital. Some individuals were unconscious; others were vomiting or exhibiting other overdose symptoms.

Berman isn't technically retired, but after the 2016-2017 National Football League season, he accepted a reduced role.

There is a hope that Berman could work a quarter of the National Football League season, according to sources.

In addition to appearing on "SportsCenter" this season, Berman also could do more features and interviews to aid "Sunday NFL Countdown", whose ratings dropped by double digits in Berman's first year away from the program. My guess would be a ratings burst at the beginning, which slowly returns to reality as people get more accostumed to seeing Berman back on their televisions.

Whether or not Berman's presence can help return ESPN's Sunday NFL programming to its old status remains to be seen.
