Hector moves WEST - Hawaii Big Island hit at 2pm

Hurricane Hector whirled toward Hawaii with 130 miles per hour winds, bringing the threat of unsafe sea swells on two islands in the U.S. archipelago state.

Hector was a strong Category 3 Hurricane early Wednesday morning (local time), and looks to remain a major hurricane through at least Friday midday as it moves west and continues to weaken into the weekend.

Hurricane-force winds will extend outward up to 40 miles (65km) from the centre and tropical-storm-force winds will extend up to 115 miles (185km).

NOAA's Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) noted today, August 8 that a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Hawaii County.

By Tuesday evening, Hector was packing maximum sustained winds of 130 miles per hour.

Ayew joins Eagles in season-loan deal
The 26-year-old Ghana International will try to help Palace improve on their 11th place finish in the Premier League last season. Crystal Palace are on the verge of finalising a deal for Swansea City forward Jordan Ayew , according to a report.

On the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale, a Category Five storm is the most risky, with winds exceeding 156 miles per hour (251 kph). Some slight weakening is forecast during the next couple of days.

A tropical storm warning was in place Wednesday for the Big Island with gusty winds, rain and risky surf possible.

A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area. "The strongest winds are expected down the slope of the mountains, across elevated terrain, over headlands, and through gaps". Higher than usual tides will combine with the large surf to increase the threat of coastal inundation.

Emergency Management officials are still warning Hawaii Island residents to be aware of possible high wind, flooding rain, and high surf.
