City released a statement confirming the De Bruyne's injury but didn't elaborate on the seriousness of the problem.

Manchester City appear to have been hit with a major injury blow just a week into the season - with reports that Kevin De Bruyne has suffered a knee injury during a training. It's a team game and whoever steps in will do well.

De Bruyne was City's player of the season last term, scoring 12 goals and providing 21 assists as his side won the Premier League and EFL Cup.

"He had so much impact on our game".

"He's very important - a key player for us, so we hope he is able to return as quick as possible".

De Bruyne only returned to full training last week after a delayed summer break following the World Cup.

De Bruyne, who was later seen on crutches, is expected to fly to Barcelona for further tests with Dr. Ramon Cugat, a specialist who treated him when he suffered a knee injury in January 2016.

The Belgian was one of the key components within Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side last season that romped to the Premier League title, breaking nearly every record along the way.

Punters were also quick to scoop up the huge prices available on Huddersfield to shock the champions at the Etihad on Saturday.
