Stefan Karl Stefansson died yesterday at the age of 43 following a two-year cancer battle.

Stefan Karl Stefansson died on Tuesday surrounded by loved ones, reports TMZ.

"It is unbearable for us to tell our children that their father will not be an old man and that the time we have together is very short". Time is the most valuable thing in life because it never comes back.

"Stefan's family wants to express their gratitude for the support and warmth received in recent years, and to express their deepest sympathy to the many friends and fans of Stefan Karl", she posted.

He also revealed that should the cancer return, he would not be opting for further chemotherapy.

In late 2016, a GoFundMe campaign was launched for the actor after it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. "His earthly remains will be scattered in secrecy in a distant ocean", she wrote on Facebook.

Stefansson began his career in theater, performing at the National Theater of Iceland, and later starring in How the Grinch Stole Christmas in the US.

LazyTown was produced from 2004-2007, with more episodes made in 2013 and 2014.

It followed the adventures of Stephanie and her superhero friend Sportacus and their attempts to get the town's population active. It became an global success, airing on Nickelodeon in the U.S., and on BBC in the United Kingdom, and aired in over 180 different countries across the world.

His wife Steinunn shared the sad news in a statement to E!
