NBC threatened to go after Ronan Farrow if he kept reporting on sexual harassment allegation against Harvey Weinstein reports say

In 2017, NBC's general counsel allegedly threatened to ruin Ronan Farrow if he didn't stop reporting on Harvey Weinstein - even though he'd already left the network.

In response, Chris Francescani, who was part of the network's investigative unit around the time Farrow's investigation began in 2016, backed the Pulitzer-winning journalist, claiming NBC News was not telling the truth.

He also pointed out that NBC granted Farrow permission to take his Weinstein reporting to another outlet at Farrow's request.

The allegations have been made after the producer who worked with Farrow on the Weinstein investigation at NBC News, Rich McHugh, quit this month, according to The Daily Beast. "And to stand down on the story altogether".

"Externally, I had Weinstein associates calling me repeatedly".

To the Times, McHugh described an instance in which an unnamed NBC executive attempted to block his and Farrow's work on Weinstein.

"He was never told to stop in the way he's implying", Oppenheim added.

Farrow appeared to dispute Oppenheim's characterization of the report in an interview with MSNBC past year in which he claimed that the piece was "reportable" and should have been aired earlier.

Farrow praised McHugh in a statement for the NY Times.
