Robert Redford says he's retiring from acting

In a new interview published Monday, Robert Redford tells Entertainment Weekly retirement is on his mind, and that his new movie, The Old Man & The Gun, will likely be his last acting job. "And why not go out with something that's very upbeat and positive?" He starred in "Our Souls at Night" with Jane Fonda past year and now plays a life-long bank robber and prison escapee in "The Old Man & The Gun" with Sissy Spacek and Casey Affleck, which will be released on September 28.

His latest film has him starring alongside other big stars including Danny Glover, Casey Affleck, Tom Waits, and Sissy Spacek.

Actor Rob Lowe took to Twitter following the announcement to honour Redford and his career.

When it comes to future directing endeavors, however, Redford was much more noncommittal, saying only, "We'll see about that".

Pepsi's first female CEO Indra Nooyi to step down after 12 yrs
CEO of PepsiCo Indra Nooyi speaks at the Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York City, U.S., September 20, 2017. Prior to that, Laguarta served in leadership positions in the European and sub-Saharan Africa divisions.

"To me, that was a wonderful character to play at this point in my life", Redford told the outlet.

The film is directed by David Lowery, who also directed Disney's 2016 update of "Pete's Dragon", in which Redford co-starred with Bryce Dallas Howard. "I'm an impatient person, so it's hard for me to sit around and do take after take after take", he said. He also founded the Sundance Institute and the Sundance Film Festival. Enjoying a lengthy career that includes Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture due to 1980's Ordinary People, his career features a slew of all-time classics, including The Sting (1973), for which he received his only acting Oscar nomination, and the still incredibly relevant All The President's Men, a passion project in which Redford played Bob Woodward opposite Dustin Hoffman as Carl Bernstein.

The star revealed that he feels the time has come for him to retire from acting for good. "Once they're done then I'm going to say, 'Okay, that's goodbye to all that, ' and then just focus on directing". Jane Fonda, 80, is just one example of this, as the star revealed what it was like to film romantic scenes with Redford in Barefoot in The Park as well as Our Souls At Night. In The Old Man & the Gun, he portrays Forrest Tucker, who isn't chasing fortune and fame, just the thrill of doing what he loves, which happens to be robbing banks.
