Former Brazil star Ronaldo has revealed he is recovering after spending days in hospital on the Spanish island of Ibiza with serious illness.

The 41-year-old was rushed to Can Misses Hospital on the island on Friday evening.

The 41-year-old, a two-time victor of the Ballon d'Or, paid tribute to the hospital staff who treated him after initially playing down concerns he had a serious case of pneumonia.

"Hello everyone! I'm already home after a few days at the clinic".

Other top hospitals were Cleveland Clinic , Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. News & World Report's rankings of best regional hospitals, knocking Kaiser Permanente Roseville Medical Center off the list.

Ronaldo has thanked well-wishers after being discharged from hospital in Ibiza. Thanks my love Celina Locks for being by my side. "It's going to be an incredible season with tons of great football and surprises".

The former Real Madrid forward twice won the Ballon d'Or award for the best player in the world in 1997 and 2002.

He won his first cap for Brazil as a 17-year-old and went on to score 62 goals in 97 global appearances, including both goals when Brazil beat Germany 2-0 in the 2002 World Cup final.
