He was 16 under for the tournament with 11 holes left in the round at the final event of the PGA Tour's regular season - and is preparing for the grind of playing 29 holes.

Snedeker beat Webb Simpson (62) and C.T. Pan (66) by topping the leaderboard at 21 under, which was sealed with a birdie on the par-four 18th hole.

"Back in the lead, back in a good frame of mind", said Snedeker, who shot a course-record 59 a day earlier.

"If I get to 22-under-par, I think it's hard for other guys to get there", said the eight-times PGA Tour victor.

"Shooting 59 on Thursday, your expectations go through the roof", Snedeker said, also expressing pride that he could "cap it off the way we did today, to play pretty much a flawless round of golf". "I've got to be real smart". "Over 72 holes, you're going to have stretches where balls don't go in the hole, you've got to be able to kind of overcome, be patient, wait for the long ones to fall, and luckily I made a couple coming down the stretch".

Snedeker, a former Vanderbilt golfer, won this tournament in 2007 as a rookie, but that was the previous year it was contested at Forest Oaks Country Club.

"Twenty-nine (holes to play)", Snedeker said. "I can learn something from it". "I can just go and play and if I win, wow, what a super blessing".

Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., and David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., were the top Canadians, finishing in a three-way tie for eighth at 15 under.

And every leader who finished the third round here at 16 under or better has wound up winning, including Henrik Stenson (16 under) a year ago and Si Woo Kim (18 under) in 2016.

"If I have a great weekend, then it will be great", he said. Moore and John Oda were the closest competitors at that point after they both posted rounds of 63 to tie for second place. The 37-year-old pro from Tennessee now has multiple victories in three different PGA Tour events: the Wyndham (2007, 2018), the Farmers Insurance Open (2012, 2016), and the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (2013, 2015).

For a while, it looked like it might come down to a playoff between Pan and Snedeker, who were even at 20 under entering Pan's final hole.

Saunders, grandson of the late Arnold Palmer, finished at 8-under and tied for 45th place, reaching the playoffs after failing to qualify the past three years with a chance to clinch a spot in this tournament.

The other subplot at Sedgefield was the last-minute push for the playoffs, which begin next week at The Northern Trust in New Jersey with the top 125 players qualifying.

"The birdie at 18 was incredible", Taylor said.
