Sony’s Marvel Universe Updates: Silver and Black Splitting into Two & More

Variety also notes that this could open the door for appearances by other members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where Tom Holland's Spider-Man now resides (under loan to Marvel Studios). This also includes the many heroes and villains who have appeared in Spider-Man comics over the years, and there are various spin-off movies on the way, including the upcoming Venom.

Venom, starring Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed hits theaters on October 5. If Venom ends up getting a PG-13 rating, parents won't have to worry about taking their kids to see it. Confirmation on the film's rating has not yet been made, but, with Sony's push for possible crossovers, it seems like the film will avoid an R rating.

A new report shed light on Sony's plans for their Spider-Man franchises, including the news that their deal with Marvel gives them access to roughly 900 characters in their library. Along with Morbius, Sony has brought in writer Richard Wenk (Equalizer 2) to start on a script that will cover one of Spider-Man's most famous foes, Kraven the Hunter. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse will hit theaters on December 14th. It's a lot riding on a simple rating, but it does suggest intriguing future plans for Venom, and possibly an early death knell for Sony's Spider-Man-less cinematic universe.

Thousands sign petition to appoint LeBron James as United States secretary of education
The petition has more than 5,000 supporters and is nearing its goal of 6,000 as of Wednesday afternoon. Not everyone was applauding James educational endeavors.

"We believe Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film", Panitch said.

Moving forward, while Sony is developing a series of disparate Spider-Man comics adaptations, they're not necessarily doing so with the idea of a strictly unified cinematic universe in mind. It's noted the Silver Sable movie and the Black Bat film will have female directors, and that Sony is eager to work with Prince-Bythewood on other projects. There's a reason that Spider-Man: Homecoming is explicitly part of the MCU and Venom is not.

No one can predict what the future holds, but for now it's clear that Sony is basically DTF with Marvel Studios when and if Marvel opts to partner up on Spider-Man comics characters other than Peter Parker.
