Tessa Thompson In Talks To Join Disney’s ‘Lady And The Tramp’

The 1955 original followed an upper-middle-class American cocker spaniel named Lady who meets a streetsmart, downtown stray mongrel called the Tramp, and the two embark on many romantic adventures including that iconic spaghetti smooch dinner scene.

In addition to Theroux and Thompson, Lady And The Tramp will also feature Ashley Jensen as a Scottish Terrier named Jackie, Doctor Strange's Benedict Wong as an English bulldog with the unimaginative name of Bull, and Kiersey Clemons as Darling, the human owner of Lady.

Thompson previously starred opposite Chris Hemsworth in Disney-Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok". That character appears to have been gender-swapped, because it was named Jock in the original movie. She played supporting roles in Boots Riley's blistering satire Sorry to Bother You, Alex Garland's mind-bending Annihilation, and the second season of HBO's twisty prestige drama Westworld.

'Dozens' reported dead after viaduct collapses in Italy
Photos published by the Ansa news agency on its website showed a huge gulf between two sections of the highway. Italy's Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli said the bridge collapse looked like an "immense tragedy".

Lady and the Tramp, directed by Charlie Bean and written by Andrew Bujalski, is set to be released on the upcoming Disney streaming service in 2019. Thompson can be seen next in "Creed 2". Look for Thompson to garner Independent Spirit Awards buzz for her turn in Sorry to Bother You, which now boasts a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

She is repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency, Mosaic and attorney Jeff Bernstein. He recently wrapped Ang Lee's Gemini Man with Will Smith, as well as Armando Iannucci's The Personal History of David Copperfield, which stars Dev Patel as the title character.
