They have also been critical of Trump.

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-California), ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, said that "In adding John Brennan to his enemies list, Trump demonstrates again how deeply insecure and vindictive he is".

Former Hillary Clinton aide Philippe Reines was more blunt, calling Trump a "vindictive little bitch".

"This has zero to do with national security".

The signees include six former CIA directors, five former deputy directors and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

While the White House sought to paint Brennan as a partisan figure, the president has ignited an avalanche of criticism from national security officials across both sides of the aisle. One of them, Sen.

Mr. Trump's claims of no collusion are, in a word, hogwash.

The letter was then used by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to prop up its FISA warrant to spy on then-Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page.

Page was never charged with any crime, but said his career and personal life were ruined because certain media spread unsubstantiated claims from the dossier that he met two prominent Russians while on a trip to Moscow.

First, at this point in my administration, any benefits that senior officials might glean from consultations with Brennan are now outweighed by the risks posed by his erratic conduct and behaviour.

Is No Credit Better Than Having Bad Credit?
In fact, that’s the best possible use of credit — engaging it to do something that can help you make money. No Credit The good news about having no credit history is there’s nothing negative about you out there.

Brennan is reacting to the news in a phone interview with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace.

Brennan said publicly reported evidence already points to suspicious relations between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

"More broadly, the issue of Mr. Brennan's security clearance raises larger questions about the practice of former officials maintaining access to our nation's most sensitive secrets long after their time in government has ended", Sanders said.

But, he said the move would be a "powerful piece of evidence" for prosecutors as part of a pattern to demonstrate an intent to use presidential power in connection with the probe. "Any access granted to our Nation's secrets should be in furtherance of national, not personal, interests".

Mr Brennan was a 25-year veteran of the intelligence agency before leading the CIA under president Barack Obama from 2013-2017 and has been an outspoken critic of Mr Trump.

At least two of the former officials, Comey and McCabe, do not now have security clearances, and none of the eight receive intelligence briefings.

The review, which examined five other former intelligence officers including the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, was extended yesterday to Bruce Ohr, a senior official at the Justice Department.

It really was the Russian Federation investigation all along.

The move came the day after Brennan chastised Trump on Twitter for having called his former White House liaison office communications director a "dog".

In a letter released Thursday night, the ex-officials wrote: 'The president's action regarding John Brennan and the threats of similar action against other former officials has nothing to do with who should and should not hold security clearances - and everything to do with an attempt to stifle free speech'. "And the campaign's former deputy chairman, Rick Gates, has pleaded guilty to financial fraud and lying to investigators", he added.
