"But one could hardly say the same about Turkey's announced tariffs on American cars, alcohol, and tobacco".

"Turkey is not in favor of an economic war, but we can not remain with no reaction if there is an attack on us", Erdogan spokesman Ibrahim Kalin said.

On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Turks to "boycott" U.S. electronic goods, but United States officials seemed unconcerned.

Pekcan said, according to the report, "the United States is an important trading partner, but it is not our only partner".

On Monday, National Security Council Advisor, John Bolton, met with Turkey's ambassador to Washington, Serdar Kilic.

President Erdogan has accused the United States of trying to "bring Turkey to its knees through threats over a pastor". He suggested Turks would buy local or Korean phones instead, although it was unclear how he meant to enforce the boycott.

Despite the continuing stalemate and threat of further USA sanctions, the value of the Turkish Lira increased slightly on Tuesday, rising 8 percent from Monday's record low, to 6.3 Lira to the dollar.

The row with Washington has helped drive the lira TRYTOM=D3 to record lows, with the currency losing more than 40 percent of its value against the dollar this year, prompting central bank liquidity moves to support it.

The lira firmed as far as 5.75 against the dollar on Wednesday and stood at 5.9350 at 0745 GMT in a move initially triggered by a Turkish court decision to release two Greek soldiers facing espionage charges.

Mnangagwa says disputed Zimbabwe election 'behind us'
A full bench of nine judges‚ led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba‚ is expected to make a decision on the court challenge. A lawyer representing Chamisa said he could not comment because he had not yet been served with Mnangagwa's papers.

President Erdogan is also scheduled to hold a telephone conversation with France's President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.

Fundamental concerns about the economy persist, however. Investors continued to demand higher interest rates.

"It is not something that is in our hands", he said, blaming "high officials".

Turkey's foreign minister has said that it is prepared to negotiate with the U.S. as equals, but will not be dictated to.

United States officials maintain there is no credible evidence against Brunson - who has been held for nearly two years - and the Trump administration has negotiated for weeks to secure his release. Brunson and the US government vehemently deny those charges.

Turkey on Wednesday rejected the U.S.' appeal for an American pastor's release from detention, Turkish media reported. A Turkish court rejected his appeal for release while the White House said it would consider lifting some sanctions if the pastor is released.

State television TRT reported the 2nd Penal Court in İzmir rejected the appeal on August 15 and sent the defendant's petition to an upper court. Following the meeting, USA officials have given no indication that the United States has been prepared to give ground in the standoff between the two countries' leaders.

For its part, Turkey would like to see the extradition of Fethullah Gulen, who now lives in Pennsylvania.

The two countries have also been in conflict in Syria's war. He is also charged with supporting the banned Kurdish PKK movement. Since tightening his grip on power in June elections, Erdogan's relations with the USA, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally, have deteriorated.
