Ford is recalling 2 million trucks in North America to address fire concerns for seat belt parts

Ford is recalling approximately 2 million F-150 trucks due to a potential fire risk.

Affected vehicles include 2015-2018 Ford F-150 Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cabs built at its Dearborn Assembly Plant on March 12, 2014 through Aug. 23, 2018, and at its Kansas City Assembly Plant on Aug. 20, 2014 through Aug. 23, 2018.

Pretensioners hold the seat belt tight when sensors detect a sudden deceleration, as occurs in a crash. The pretensioner is a component attached to the base of a seatbelt clip. "It's imperative that occupants continue to effectively protect themselves with their seat belt". Sometimes, this piece involves explosives.

According to Ford's press release, an investigation into the matter found certain driver and passenger seatbelt pretensioners capable of generating enough sparks during use to start a fire when combined with the routinely exhausted gases within the lower part of the vehicle's B-pillars. This, in turn, could cause the carpeting and insulation behind the B-pillar to catch on fire.

Ford officials say they are aware of 17 reports of smoke or fire in the United States and six in Canada.

The Chinese delegation then stormed out, with Du reportedly striding around the room to emphasise his displeasure before leaving. But China said it was Nauru , one of the world's smallest countries, that should be saying sorry.

Federal safety regulators opened a preliminary investigation into this issue last month after receiving five complaints. Shortly after they noticed a fire near the seat belt. Owners will be notified via first-class mail, and should call their dealers to schedule times to take the vehicles in.

When vehicles return to the dealership, technicians will remove some insulation and wiring harness tape from the B-pillar, adding heat-resistant tape to both the carpet and insulation in the same area.

The Ford reference number for the recall is 18S27.

Ford's stock value was down more than 0.6 percent by mid-afternoon on Thursday.
