On Wednesday night, flight controllers detected a tiny leak on one of two Russian Soyuz spacecraft attached to the complex, as the Expedition 56 crew slept.

Even with the scary thought the space crew could have run out of oxygen, NASA and Russian space officials have stressed all six astronauts on the ISS were and are in no danger.

NASA and the Russian space agency Roscosmos operate the orbiting space lab along with the European Space Agency, Japan's JAXA and the Canadian Space Agency.

Official statements refer to the meteor as a "micrometeorite" and the resulting damage as a "micro fracture".

The Soyuz module isn't needed to get the crew back down to the surface, so the crew just needs to make sure the leak is stopped.

Flight controllers, meanwhile, monitored the cabin pressure while working to come up with a better long-term solution.

Troubleshooting and fix work continued.

The ISS crew reports that the leak originated from a hole measuring only about 2mm across located on the upper section of the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft. NASA confirmed the problem and said it consisted of a "minute pressure leak", which crew members were repairing.

The International Space Station, or ISS, is a science and engineering laboratory that orbits 250 miles (400 km) above Earth.

Using an ordinary toothbrush and an endoscope, they found that only one of the two-millimeter cracks had actually pierced the hull and was leaking air.
