Apple scrubs most references to AirPower from its website

Last week's Apple event marked one year to the day since Apple showed off its AirPower wireless charging mat for the first time.

But now it seems the all-white accessory may have been killed off completely. In his report, he also states that unless Apple makes significant advancements, the AirPower may be doomed for failure, and now it's not viable for the market at all. And the tech giant made no mention of it during the iPhone XS launch event last week.

According to tech blogger Sonny Dickson, AirPower had been suffering from multiple issues including poor heat management which causes devices to get too hot while charging, bugs with accurate reporting of battery levels between devices, and mechanical interference between the 20-odd charging coils Apple uses to send electricity wirelessly to nearby devices. The wireless charger emits too much heat which affects the charging rates of the devices placed on top of it. The year is nearly coming to an end, with Apple's iPhone event for this year also done and dusted with. Considering the AirPower is meant to mainly charge iPhones and Apple Watches (but also a future wireless charging case for the AirPods), experts were hoping to see it announced side by side with the new models of the devices. There is also interference amongst the mat and the devices.

Police officer's trial in 2014 shooting stays in Chicago
Three Chicago Police Department officers were indicted in June 2017 for conspiring to cover up McDonald's shooting. It also recommends abolishing the Independent Police Review Authority, which investigates officer misconduct.

Needless to say, this is causing interference issues, and issues with communication between devices. For that objective, the engineers had between 21 and 24 overlapping coils delivering power at various rates depending on the devices being charged on top. The only way this can be overcome is thought to be making the device slightly thicker and larger, although Apple is is said to be unwilling to compromise its design in this way.

Dickson suggests that, at least at present, the "broad consensus among engineers" suggests it is highly unlikely that the device shops before the end of the year. "Chatter from less notable individuals involved with the project further suggest that the AirPower concept and trademark are likely to be applied to an all new product, which will include unmentioned features, to be publicly shown at an undisclosed date 'not likely to occur before Spring, '" concluded Dickson.

Mashable has reached out to Apple to learn whether AirPower really is dead in the water.
