Minnesota's media day is September 24 and their training camp begins on September 25.

However, don't count out Kawhi's current team, the Raptors, out of the picture yet, as they're already doing everything they can in order to retain the two-time Defensive Player of the Year. Veteran players are slowly starting to filter in.

Even though we are getting closer to the regular season it seems like some rosters still aren't set in stone. This is supposed to be an uneventful time of year. Then news broke on Wednesday.

Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns, seen here celebrating a Timberwolves win late last season, aren't likely to be teammates much longer.

The Timberwolves also hope to unload the remaining $48 million on forward Gorgui Dieng's contract if they do indeed deal Butler.

Caron Butler Says Lakers Should Go After Jimmy Butler

National Basketball Association writers have been having a field day at the Wolves' expense over the last couple of weeks. If the Nets front office is confident in that philosophy, they may be willing to open their pockets a bit more to get Butler in a Nets uniform this season.

Dinwiddie had a breakout season past year, finishing third in the voting for Most Improved Player.

So far, few franchises, if any, are engaged in serious conversations with the Timberwolves on Butler, sources said.

It is odd that the team would be unwilling to move Butler, especially after it was made public that he did not intend to re-sign with the team when he enters free agency in the summer of 2019. In fact, while Towns signing on to stay with the Timberwolves is a positive development, it should only accelerate trade talks involving Butler with other teams. He will now be faced with one of the most hard decisions of his front office career as he begins the next phase of the Brooklyn rebuild. Those three teams have the salary-cap space to sign Butler outright next summer to a maximum contract extension. Minnesota lost all its leverage when it became common knowledge that Butler was unhappy and requested a change. A max contract has been on the table for Towns to accept for months, only for him to delay signing the deal.
