An example of an unwelcome charge would be Keith Ellison's situation, where his ex-girlfriend's claims are pretty much ignored by the media and Democrats, even though they expect us to believe they really care about women.

"I am with him all the way".

On Sunday, Ramirez, a 53-year-old former Yale classmate of Kavanaugh's, went public with her own accusation of sexual misconduct.

The New Yorker said it contacted Ms Ramirez after learning of a possible involvement in an incident with Mr Kavanaugh.

But he added "unless there's something more" to back up her accusation, he's "not going to ruin Judge Kavanaugh's life over this". She was "foggy and slurring her words", according to The New Yorker, when a male student exposed himself to her.

The new allegation has been made by Deborah Ramirez, who claimed that Kavanaugh exposed his genitals in her face during the 1983-84 academic school year at Yale University.

"This is a smear, plain and simple", Kavanaugh said in a statement issued through the White House.

The new allegations have prompted a key senator to call for "an immediate postponement" of any further proceedings by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which is considering Kavanaugh's nomination. Republicans narrowly control the Senate. Taylor Foy, a Judiciary spokesman, complained that Democrats "actively withheld information" from the Republicans. They said they remained disappointed by the "bullying" that "tainted the process".

She says she remembers Mr Kavanaugh standing to her right and laughing, pulling up his trousers.

It said that the allegation came to the attention of Democratic senators through a civil rights lawyer.

Meanwhile, Democratic senator and committee member Richard Blumenthal echoed demands for an investigation.

The magazine reported that after "six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections" to recall the incident. Ramirez and her attorney could not be reached for comment on the record.

He questioned why Ford didn't report the attack at the time to law enforcement if it "was as bad as she says", although law-enforcement experts say sexual assault often isn't reported by women who are embarrassed, ashamed, or anxious that no one will believe them.

"Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford", Howard Walsh, an attorney for Keyser, wrote. "The nomination must be withdrawn".

Ramirez's story is the latest hurdle for Kavanaugh's Supreme Court bid and for Republicans seeking to tilt the balance of power on the high court for conservatives. Ford's lawyers also added details for other witnesses they would like to be called, including two trauma experts; Republicans have so far declined to accommodate that request, the person said.

The White House has dismissed Ramirez's allegations as being part of a "coordinated smear campaign".

They have also accepted the committee's decision not to subpoena Mark Judge, a Kavanaugh friend who Ford asserts was present when the incident occurred in the eighties.

"Number one, I don't think that will happen, and number two, I want her to have her voice", Trump said.

Earlier Saturday amid the latest deadline standoff Vice President Mike Pence called Kavanaugh "a man of integrity with impeccable credentials".

The New Yorker story has come under fire for its reporting after the New York Times said its reporters had interviewed "several dozen people over the past week in an attempt to corroborate her story, and could find no one with first-hand knowledge".

The newspaper reported that it had examined the calendars and noted they list basketball games, movie outings, football workouts, college interviews, and a few parties with names of friends other than those identified by Ms Ford. "I can not live in this country if he's in the Supreme Court".

Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to discuss private conversations. Ford must testify first.

'I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!'

"Congress failed the test in 1991 with Anita Hill", Senator Patty Murray, Democrat of Washington state, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday.
