Linus Torvalds is taking a break to work on personal development

Linus Torvalds is taking a break from Linux to wash his soapy mouth out

In my quest for a better patch, this made sense to me.

It's another fairly routine kernel update at this stage, but more shocking is that Linus Torvalds will be taking a temporary leave from kernel maintainership and Greg Kroah-Hartman will take over the rest of the Linux 4.19 cycle. He has attained celebrity status while steering his creation through the decades, but along the way he has also attracted a different reputation within the Linux and software community. "I know now this was not OK and I am truly sorry". He infamously said "f*** you" to Nvidia in 2012 because of the graphics company's disinterest in properly supporting Linux with its GPUs-Nvidia responded with the grace you'd expect of a large company that can't afford profanity-laced public spats-and later dropped a "Christmas f-bomb" on a kernel developer who blamed user programs for breakage. Torvalds, however, made a mistake on his own calendar, booking a family vacation at the same time.

Torvalds has not been one to mince words when he disagrees with other developers, and it can be especially tough on newcomers.

"From this point forward, we should abide by these rules in order to help make the kernel community a welcoming environment to participate in", Torvalds wrote. "Really. Seriously. I care about the technology and I care about the kernel".

"I need to change some of my behavior, and I want to apologize to the people that my personal behavior hurt and possibly drove away from kernel development entirely", he added.

However, Torvalds said on Sunday he had a change of heart when last week people in the Linux community confronted him about his "lifetime of not understanding emotions".

Tesla (TSLA) Given a $179.00 Price Target by Morningstar Analysts
This is a decline of -220,152 shares over the average 10,209,359 shares that were traded daily over the last three months. It was the last financial update before the second half of the year, when Musk had vowed the company would be profitable.

Torvalds isn't stepping away from Linux's development.

In his stead, Greg Kroah-Hartman, who now maintains the stable branch of the Linux kernel, will step up and manage the rest of the Linux 4.19 release cycle.

In addition to temporarily signing off on his duties, Torvalds also committed a new Code of Conduct to replace the Code of Conflict (both can be read here, the new Code of Conduct is in green and the Code of Conflict is in red).

Torvalds has already lost some of his senior developers as a result of his gobshitery, a method which he has always claimed is nothing personal, but rather a method of protecting and accelerating the development of the kernel. Just no. You're so successful because you're one of few people who don't waste time beating around the bush.

"However, others argue that Torvalds" behavior helped pave the way for online trolling.

"This is not some kind of I'm burnt out, I need to just go away", Torvalds said. We'd urge others to follow his example, we're sure every grouping has at times had its personality problems, and it's never too late to enact some repairs.
