Mangkhut kills four in China, causes destruction in Hong Kong

Parts of Hong Kong and Macau were severely flooded, though there were no immediate reports of fatalities.

Shocking footage of the incident was captured by Joseph Anthony, 44, who said: 'I was surprised to see the dad out with the kids that early on. There have been no reports of fatalities.

Authorities in Hong Kong issued a signal 10 - the strongest possible storm warning - as the storm hit the busy financial centre.

Mangkhut on Monday was still affecting southern China's coast and the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan and rain and strong winds were expected to continue through Tuesday.

In Macau, next door to Hong Kong, casinos were ordered to close from 11 p.m. Saturday, the first time such action was taken in the city, the South China Morning Post reported.

Secretary for Security John Lee Ka-chiu described the damage as "serious and extensive" with the number of calls for help, or reports of injury, five times higher than in August previous year when Super Typhoon Hato battered Hong Kong. The storm brought heavy rain and many landslides.
