One day after a 62, Woods shot 70 and was five behind.

Fellow Kiwi Josh Geary is at 2-under and T36 while Scott Hend survived a disappointing incident on the 18th hole when a spectator apparently picked up his ball and wandered off.

Fitzpatrick was 1 over for the tournament early in his round, then fired off seven birdies in a 10-hole span and another at the par-4 18th.

He dropped another shot at the third, his twelfth, to be back at even par and outside the cut line but found something in his game as he headed for the clubhouse.

He followed with an immediate birdie before birdieing his final three holes to card a 66 for the day.

Chuka Umunna: Labour is institutionally racist
Labour Party chairman Ian Lavery told the same programme that Mr Umunna's call was "disrespectful" and "offensive". Mr Umunna defended his remarks, saying: "The phrase that I used is a metaphor, it's a figure of speech".

Daniel Brooks and * a href="http://www.espn.com/golf/player/_/id/*/ashun-wu" *Ashun Wu are a shot further back at 10 under after rounds of 64 and 65 respectively.

"It was a good day, I played very good tee to green and holed a few putts so I can't complain". Fitzpatrick finished 12th in the standings and although the focus fell squarely on Rafael Cabrera Bello and Matt Wallace as the players most unfortunate, Fitzpatrick was actually the only one who challenged in the final event to earn his place by right.

Among the chasing pack is defending champion Matt Fitzpatrick who has an enviable record at the Crans sur Sierre course. "He wouldn't be the worst player to emulate", Fitzpatrick said with a grin.

Fitzpatrick - who beat Scott Hend in a play-off previous year - began the day five off the pace and lost further ground with blemishes at the first and fourth, only to bounce back with three consecutive birdies from the fifth. You are going to have to because someone is going to come up from somewhere, there is no doubt because you can get it going.
