A Maryland hiker celebrating his honeymoon on Molokai has been found dead, five days after setting out on a trail alone.

Stephen and Jeffanie Kramar are shown in a photo from their September 8 wedding. About 2:30 p.m., she received a text from him, saying he was OK and headed back.

A volunteer assisting with search efforts for a missing man found a lifeless body on the hillside in an area called Pia Gulch about a half-mile northeast of the Wavecrest Resort at around 9:16 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. But because her husband is more experienced at hiking, he wanted to check out the terrain first to make sure it was safe. "He's hiked 14,000-foot mountains". He's very extreme, but he knows what he's doing.

Family members identified the body as Kramar, police said. "He served in the Navy for nearly three years so he's trained and experienced".

She never heard from him again. Per WUSA, Stephen Kramar of Gaithersburg, Maryland was at the Wavecrest Resort in Kaunakakai, Molokai when he told his new wife he was going to check out a trail the morning of September 17 before she joined him in order to ensure it was safe.

Jeffanie told FOX 5 the couple was planning to move to McLean, Va., when they returned from their two-week-long honeymoon. An autopsy will be scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Kramar and his wife, Jeffanie, were staying at the Wavecrest while on their honeymoon, following their September 8 wedding.
