As of 9 a.m., Gordon was 60 miles southwest of Miami moving west-northwest at about 17 mph with sustained winds of 45 mph.

As Tropical Storm Gordon moves across South Florida, we will see waves of downpours. It is also not expected to strengthen into a hurricane; it will likely stay tropical storm strength.

A storm surge warning has been issued from Shell Beach, Louisiana, to the Mississippi-Alabama border.

The National Weather Service says Gordon is expected to pass over the Florida Keys and the southern portion of the Florida peninsula Monday morning, reaching the central Gulf Coast by late Tuesday or Tuesday evening.

The National Hurrican Centre (NHC) said that between two to four inches (five to 10cm) of rain is possible in parts of the Florida Keys with maximums of eight inches (20cm).

Rainfall will have to be monitored on Monday as locally heavy rainfall will be possible, particularly in Collier County.

Sheriff: Family's kayak capsizes, father and 3 children die
The body of nine-year-old Krya was located by National Park authorities on the shore of Michigan Island the following morning. The Coast Guard issued an emergency broadcast to all boats in the area asking them to divert to where the kayak had capsized.

It warned that heavy rainfall from the system would affect portions of the central Gulf Coast later in the week.

As much as eight inches (20cm) of rain is expected to fall overnight and Potential Tropical Cyclone Seven is expected to increase in strength, first becoming a Tropical Depression and later a tropical storm on Monday night.

No severe weather is anticipated for Central Florida, but winds along our east coast will increase to 15-20 miles per hour making for some rough boating conditions.

Miami Beach Police said via Twitter that the Labor Day holiday was "NOT a beach day", with rough surf and potential rip currents. "Only enter the ocean near a lifeguard and never swim alone". Always remember these are not real forecasts, just current model guidance. Even if it does intensify, the system will be pulling away from Florida. This is also where the heaviest rain will remain.

"Any time you get a tropical cyclone in the Gulf production region there could be some disruption, " said Steve Silver, a senior meteorologist at Radiant Solutions in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
