Serena fined $17000 after US Open final outburst

The furore over the final of the US Open is continuing after it was on Sunday revealed that Serena Williams had been fined $17,000 for code violations during the game which saw her lose her bid to equal the record for a 24th major title.

The first violation for coaching, which isn't allowed during any men's matches but is permitted on the women's tour except in Grand Slam tournaments, came when Williams' coach Patrick Mouratoglou was seen gesturing to the 23-time Grand Slam champion.

The American tennis star was docked $10,000 for "verbal abuse" of the chair umpire, $4000 for being warned for coaching from the stands, and $3,000 for smashing and breaking her racket from her $1.85 million prize money that she won after finishing as the runner-up against Osaka. Whether or not this was a case of sexism or racism (or both), the fact is that Williams has been subjected to bigoted abuse throughout her career.

"The WTA believes that there should be no difference in the standards of tolerance provided to the emotions expressed by men vs. women", Simon said in a statement. Serena got a coaching warning and then she first received a point penalty, then a game penalty. 'I'll be honest, I was coaching.

Judge Kavanaugh Faces Third Day Of Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing
The documents detail the nominee's views on racial profiling in the wake of the September 11 attacks, according to reports. Booker said at the hearing that he violated Senate rules by doing so and dared his colleagues to expel him.

"When a woman is emotional, she's "hysterical" and she's penalized for it", King tweeted. "More voices are needed to do the same". For me to say "thief" and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark. "I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff".

"I have my personal opinion that maybe the chair umpire should not have pushed Serena to the limit, especially in a Grand Slam final", he said.

However, he said he wasn't sure sexism was at the root of Ramos's decisions.
