Spotify Will Now Let Artists Upload Music Directly, Bypassing Labels and Distributors

Still, uploads represent another way for musicians and Spotify to cut out middlemen. "In the past few months, we've been testing an upload tool within Spotify for Artists, because we believe getting new music to your fans should be simple".

The handful of artists who have already been selected for the feature include Noname, the Chicago rapper who has won acclaim for her songs of African American women's struggles framed as telephone conversations, and Michael Brun, the Haitian-American DJ and producer known for his lively inter-cultural mixes.

"Artists have told us that releasing their music on Spotify can sometimes be a little nerve-wracking, so we wanted to give as much transparency to the process as possible", Kene Anoliefo, a senior product lead on Spotify's creator marketplace team, told Rolling Stone.

In a blog post heralding the feature, Spotify writes, "Since we launched Spotify for Artists, one of the top requested features has been the ability to upload music directly onto Spotify".

The moon travelers will be carried around the moon in a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, which is also still in development. You have to set some kind of date that's the "things go right" date. "There is a chance something could go wrong".

The feature will also offer a "clear report" on how a release is performing, while Spotify says that the service "doesn't charge you any fees or commissions no matter how frequently you release music".

In 2018, streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are where people go to listen to music: The two platforms combined have over 150 million subscribers globally.

The new initiative is now being tested in an invite-only beta mode, but Spotify said they will "bring upload to even more artists, labels, and teams" in the future.

This move would allow artists to bypass record labels and distribution groups and grant them automatic royalty payments to be transferred to their bank accounts.
