Titans granting receiver Rishard Matthews his release

The Tennessee Titans released wide receiver Rishard Matthews on Thursday after the seven-year veteran requested his walking papers.

The timing of this news is quite odd, especially considering that Matthews signed an extension through 2019 in August.

Since the ink dried on the deal, however, Matthews hasn't liked how he's been used in new coordinator Matt LaFleur's offense.

The Titans tried to trade Matthews, but Robinson said the market was not there so they made a decision to release him.

"When Daddy's home for good", Matthews wrote.

Matthews had criticized Tennessee's offence late last season.

Matthews hinted at the possible departure Wednesday evening on Instagram.

Chicago Cubs clinch 4th straight postseason berth
Louis had a chance to win that game but some mistakes, both in terms of strategy and simply physical mistakes blew it for them. Before Heyward's homer, the Cubs scored five runs in their last 56 innings covering six games against the Pirates .

I've been the leading receiver [on the Titans] for two years.

The Patriots have brought a parade of receivers through their doors over the past six months in an effort to replace Brandin Cooks, Danny Amendola and the suspended Julian Edelman (who is set to return next week) with little success. Matthews had 82 games and 228 receptions in his career. Releasing Matthews means the remaining group of young wideouts led by Corey Davis will have to play a bigger role.

The Buffalo Bills are in dire need of playmakers as top wide receivers on the roster, Kelvin Benjamin and Zay Jones, aren't off to the best starts this season. Matthews missed most of the offseason with a torn meniscus but said he's felt "100 percent" for weeks.

"We can't look back", Sharpe said.

The Titans face the Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. ET.

"We are all sticking together", Taylor said. "We got to get rolling with the guys that are in this locker room, so that just gives opportunities for more guys to step on the field and make some plays for us".
