Chance fans and Chicago residents were proud of the new initiative.

After donating a million dollars to Chicago schools, Chance the Rapper continues his philanthropic efforts by pledging $1 million to mental health services in Chicago, during the second annual summit for his nonprofit organization SocialWorks. During the announcement, Chance explained that a major focus for the initiative stems from wanting "to change the way that mental health resources are being accessed".

Last year, Chance donated $1 million to the Chicago Public School Foundation through his New Chance fund, and on Thursday, he revealed that the donations have been extended for another year.

The 25-year-old musician, whose real name is Chancelor Bennett, announced the move Thursday at the summit for his nonprofit, SocialWorks.

"This year, 20 more schools will get $100K".

Part of the funding will go to a new initiative from SocialWorks, called "State of Mind", to help connect people with needed treatments. Chance added. "We will be upping the game in terms of equity, in terms of what is rightfully yours".

According to Pitchfork, the donation will benefit various organizations providing mental health services in the area with six different mental health institutions receiving $100,000 grants.
