Donald Trump Tweets "MANY CRIMINALS" On Way To Border, Blames Democrats

President Trump is again ramping up his rhetoric on an issue he said he hopes can energize his Republican base heading into the midterms, with an all-caps threat to shut down the southern USA border if Mexico doesn't stop the "onslaught" of a caravan of migrants fleeing Honduras.

The president tweeted Wednesday about the caravan again, this time tying it to Democrats and the midterm elections.

The latest caravan is now estimated to include approximately 4,000 men, women and children from Honduras and Guatemala.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!" he wrote.

President says no more money will be given to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador if the caravan is not stopped; William La Jeunesse reports on the march to America.

Numerous more than 2,000 Hondurans in a migrant caravan trying to wend its way to the United States are finding help from sympathetic Guatemalans even as local governments and U.S. President Donald Trump are trying to discourage them.

Frustrated by Congress' failure to fully fund his proposed wall at the border with Mexico, Mr Trump in April ordered National Guard personnel to help the Department of Homeland Security secure the border in four southwestern U.S. states.

While Trump is threatening to eliminate aid, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have been pushing efforts to improve USA ties in Central America to reduce the flow of migrants.

It's unclear how he intends to close the entire US-Mexico border and he already earlier this year called up some military units to do border security.

In a series of tweets Thursday morning, Trump also blamed Democrats for the "assault on our country" by illegal immigration. Some have said they are fleeing gang violence, and are traveling as a group for protection from criminal gangs. "Hopefully Mexico will stop this onslaught at their Northern Border".
