‘Marvel’s Luke Cage’ canceled after 2 seasons at Netflix

Iron Fist star Finn Jones expressed a sign of solidarity with his Luke Cage brethren shortly after the series was cancelled by Marvel and Netflix Friday, just one week after it was learned Jones' own series would not be moving forward with a third season.

The news was announced tonight via The Hollywood Reporter, with Netflix and Marvel releasing a joint statement addressing the matter.

"Unfortunately, Marvel's Luke Cage will not return for a third season", Marvel and Netflix said, per Deadline. Last week in not much of a surprise Netflix cancelled Iron Fist after it's second season.

Per THR, the cancelation was due to "creative differences and the inability to agree to terms for a third season." Luke Cage's showrunner was OG Hip-Hop scribe Cheo Hodari Coker.

With the move, Netflix severs further ties with Marvel as the producer prepares to shift gears toward providing content for parent company Disney's yet to launch streaming services. The news comes seven days after the cancellation of Iron Fist and on the same day the third season of Daredevil premiered on the streaming service. Now we can add Luke Cage to the casualties.

Drug-resistant salmonella linked to raw chicken in 29 states — CDC
The CDC says the outbreak started in January, and more people have tested positive for this strain through September. Of the 92 reported cases, 10 were in NY and nine were in New Jersey, according to the CDC's website.

Coincidentally, the initial "Luke Cage" season two trailer features Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke" classic. He later reprised the role in the Marvel team-up series The Defenders.

What are your thoughts on this surprising announcement? Luke Cage had a strong first two seasons, with a terrific supporting cast-most notably Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and her right hand, Hernan "Shades" Alzarez (Theo Rossi).
