McConnell to AP: "'Nobody's going to beat" Murkowski

Murkowski on Trump I know Alaska 'better than he does'

New Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in for a second time on Monday night during a ceremony televised on primetime television, and Jimmy Kimmel had a few words to say about it during his "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" monologue later that night. But he didn't say that was such great news. She almost jeopardized Kavanaugh's confirmation and did historic harm to the Senate confirmation process, but McConnell still considers her a Republican in "very good standing".

The GOP leader said it's not that there aren't enough Republican women running, but that they don't win their elections the way Democratic women do.

"It's a great frustration", he said.

Republicans are madder about the Kavanaugh controversy than Democrats are and more determined to vote in the upcoming elections because of it. He denied the allegations.

Murkowski, who isn't up for re-election until 2022, tells reporters that her "barometer is not necessarily what the president says but what the people of Alaska say".

It also comes as campaign operatives assess whether the Kavanaugh battle will overshadow what has been shaping up as a voters' referendum on Trump, colored by candidates' views on health care and the economy.

Kavanaugh gave a forceful, emotional denial of those allegations during testimony before lawmakers that some Democrats said showed a lack of judicial temperament. He noted that Murkowski won election on write-in votes in 2010 and said, "She's about as strong as you can possibly be in Alaska".

US Gulf Coast bracing for 'monstrous' Hurricane Michael
Kay Ivey has declared a state of emergency in Alabama as Hurricane Michael takes aim at Gulf coast. Neighbors in Alabama - the entire state is under an emergency declaration - also were bracing.

"We've seen a 500 percent increase in our fundraising at the end of the month as tensions have been boiling over in Washington and voters have started to pay attention", Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel explained on Fox News Tuesday. Fifty-six percent (56%) are angry about how the Senate treated Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, including 35% who are Very Angry.

Ford had asked for confidentiality in a letter to Feinstein.

The crowd was orders of magnitude smaller than the throngs of women who occupied Senate halls and heckled Republican senators in the runup to Kavanaugh's critical confirmation vote last Saturday, but used the same costumes and held the same signs: "Kava-Nope", "Believe Survivors", and "We do not consent". Lindsey Graham has been the subject of speculation about the job, but Graham said this week he has no interest.

Initially Democrats had been favored to take control of the House of Representatives and - in early September - were seen as having a decent chance of taking the Senate as well.

"You just never know what this President might do", Dr Bullock said.

"This business of presidential harassment may or may not quite be the victor they think it is", McConnell told the Associated Press.

McConnell signaled last week that he could reverse himself and consider what would be a third high court nominee for President Donald Trump should a vacancy arise in 2020. He bemoaned what he considered Democrats tying the Senate in knots with procedural votes on less controversial executive branch nominations.
